Beaches
Ben T Davis is a short distance from Tampa International Airport. Fronting Tampa Bay and offering one of the first sights of sand for those entering Tampa via Tampa International Airport, this narrow beach is attractively landscaped and stretches along the Courtney Campbell Causeway that connects Tampa with Clearwater.
Clearwater Beach is is known for its namesake stretch of soft, white sand, which draws visitors year-round for jet-skiing, parasailing, and stand-up paddle boarding in its calm waters. Cyclists and rollerbladers glide along a winding beachfront promenade lined with casual seafood restaurants and cafes. Come sunset, Pier 60 hosts a nightly festival with street performers and craft vendors.
Indian Rocks Beach offers nearly three miles of beautiful and accessible beaches along the glittering Gulf of Mexico. The city's tourist population is one of its greatest assets, as people come from all over the world to visit Indian Rocks Beach for the city's fine beaches and to watch the beautiful sunsets. Sunset Beach, located on the southern tip of Treasure Island, is a beach lover's community straight out of a Buffett song. This neighborhood welcomes guests of all lifestyles with open arms and is especially popular with the local LGBT community. On Sunset Beach you will find uniquely decorated houses, tiki huts, white sands and beachfront bars where bohemian attitudes prevail. Showers and shaded pavilion with vending machines are also available. Little Known Facts: Sunset Beach was once a separate town. It was annexed into Treasure Island in 1955. Why You Should Go: For the sunsets of course, but also for the live and let live attitudes, which make this the ultimate place to discover your inner parrot-head, since it is rumored to be (yet another!) beach that inspired the hit song "Margaritaville."
Sun key Beach If you prefer solitude with spectacular gulf views, quiet and romantic Sand Key Park is just a bridge away from the lively Clearwater Beach. Pack a picnic and set up camp at the tables on the north side of the island, or grab a fishing pole and kick back at this 95-acre county park with its wide beach, picnic pavilions and bathhouses. Explore the trails and boardwalk that winds through a salt marsh (visitors are sometimes able to observe endangered birds nesting and feeding!), and after a storm, collect shells along the shore.
